how did Robert Luketic manage it? Every Single Scene plays out Exactly as you('d) imagine. an achievement of sorts. possibly slightly exciting if you've never seen a film before.
21 is rife with mediocrity, war crime-like narration and 2-dimensional characters. MIT math nerds counting cards in Vegas. I'd have counted the cliches but I'd be less likely to fall asleep counting sheep. I'd like to accuse the director of being an underachieving alcoholic. No one is given much of anything to work with. Kevin Spacey should just go do Dancing With the Stars already and Kate Bosworth needs some cupcakes to fill in those eye sockets, which is odd because her in that black wig is possibly one of the only reasons I watched 21. Anyone who had anything to do with this movie for reasons other than paying their mortgage should be ashamed of themselves. THis movie couldn't be more douchy if it was wearing a pink polo shirt with a popped-up collar at a Buckcherry show.
A brilliant student decides to use his talent to make quick bucks at card game 21 to pay his way in
medical school
Well as far as I know when I was watching it...it was all about an intelligent student in MIT (played by Jim Sturgess as the main actor) that wanted to go to Harvard University for his College but how unfortunate, he don't have the bucks to sustain his college in that school, so, as a way of earning money he trained?, along w/ his group and a professor that is genius in counting cards in the game (21/blackjack). His professor was the one who influence him in playing cards, so as a result he and his group became professionals in counting cards in the game (21/blackjack).
They usually go to Vegas to gamble and to earn money. Before, he only wanted to earn 300bucks? sufficient for his college but as the gambling plays in his mind he became addicted to it and still plays even though he accumulated already what he needed for his college. Not knowingly he and his group was being under surveillance by the casino?s inspecting team for those who was counting?, because in playing (21/blackjack)? counting cards is very strictly prohibited. And so in one of their playing session in a casino in Vegas, aside from his group, he was caught counting cards and as a punishment the casino inspecting team beat him up as a lesson. And still he never gave up gambling because when his professor split in the team, his earnings in their previous gambling?s was robbed by his professor so as way of revenging his lost, he make up a plan in order for his professor to be cornered in the casino and be caught by the inspecting team, the plan was successful his professor was caught.
After that night he changed his way of living back then when he?s still not addicted to gambling?, and so he applied a scholarship in Harvard University, but what the dean said to him he needed to have an interesting story about himself that would shock him in order to be admitted in the school and also for the scholarship that he wanted to have? and so he told his story to the dean and after stating his story very clearly the dean cannot even have a word to say about it.
Plot: Ben Campbell is a shy, brilliant M.I.T. student who--needing to pay school tuition--finds the answers in the cards. He is recruited to join a group of the school's most gifted students that heads to Vegas every weekend armed with fake identities and the know-how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor. With unorthodox math professor and stats genius Micky Rosa leading the way, they've cracked the code. By counting cards and employing an intricate system of signals, the team can beat the casinos big time. Seduced by the money, the Vegas life_disabled, and by his smart and sexy teammate, Jill Taylor, Ben begins to push the limits. Though counting cards isn't illegal, the stakes are high, and the challenge becomes not only keeping the numbers straight, but staying one step ahead of the casinos' menacing enforcer: Cole Williams.Final VerdictFlixster - Share Movies

In response to Virgincrow:
If you have ever read the book this movie is nothing like it so saying that this movie is based on true events is only because it is loosely based on a book that is an accurate representation of an extra-ordinary tale that is the book "Bringing Down The House".
to those who have used the word "predictable" to describe this movie: this is based on a true story not the figment of someone's imagination...so, they tend to stick to facts.

Huh. Looks cool. But seriously, why did they even bother changing the characters from Asian to Caucasian? Do they really think the movie would tank just 'cause the cast is Asian? ... Or did they just want to work Kevin Spacey into it?
Crap. Now I'm torn. I hate racial prejudice... but I love Kevin Spacey.
